Do – Dads for Father’s Day!

God gave Frances and I two wonderful children. Tori was our first and 6 years later came Ransom. Though we have experienced the same ups and downs, the same good times and bad times of every family we will be the first to tell you we are BLESSED! I am a BLESSED Dad! Both Victoria and Ransom by the grace of God are not only saved, but are serving the Lord.  Tori and her husband, Tyler Gillit of are serving at Worth Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. They have given us our first grandchild, the very handsome and entertaining Will Haddon.  Ransom just married his college sweetheart, Ashley Shope and they are moving to West Palm Beach, FL and beginning to serve the Lord there.  Did I say I was BLESSED? Yes! Yes!

During these few days around Father’s Day I am posting lesson outlines from a series of family lessons I gave called, “Heaven’s Help For The Home”. I am thankful to be a Dad. It continues to be a great blessing!

DO – DADS

Ephesians 6:4

Some people think that just because a man can make a baby that he can be a “Dad”. But far too may men are having children and not REALLY  being a Dad.  It is a position that comes with instructions and the BIBLE is the instruction manuel for fatherhood. It tells Dad what “to do” and what “not to do”.  The Dad who follows the instructions will be a good father, the one who doesn’t will probably not be such a good one.  Do, Dads, what the Bible says to do – and learn to be a good Dad!

1. The Requirement toward Fathers.

“honor”
  • A. Children are to give respect. “children obey”
  • B. Children are to give reverence. ” honor thy father”

2. The Reward For Honoring Fathers.

“it may be well with thee”
  • A. The obedient child will live well.
  • B. The obedient child will have long life.

3. The Responsibility Of Being Fathers.

“provoke not … bring them up…”
  • A. The leading. “bring them up”
  • B. The feeding. “in the nurture”
  • C. The heeding. “and admonition”

Conclusion: There are many rewards in being a “Dad”, but there are also some very important responsibilities. These, if neglected, tend to destroy succeeding generations. Be the right kind of Dad and you will receive the right kind of honor!
