Ingratitude – Stepping Away From God

By Ron Maggard

Romans 1:21 says “…when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”  These are obvious steps away from God and toward not acknowledging God.

Most, when having moments of ingratitude, would never imagine that they have stepped upon a slippery path that would lead them to changing the truth about God and to being giving over to lust filled hearts, and finally forgetting God altogether.  (Romans 1:21-32)  Yet that certainly is the teaching of the Apostle Paul in Romans one.  We would do well to heed this scriptural advice.

Today is Thanksgiving Day here in the United States of America.  I know of no other nation in the world where we have so much to be thankful.  Even in the midst of this economic upheaval we are incredibly blessed.  Look at the world around you before you begin your pity party.  Half of the world lives on less than $2.00 per day.  Half of them live on less than $1.00.  Some news sources report that on Thanksgiving day alone Americans will consume some 720 million pounds of turkey, more than 48 million birds, not including all the rest on our festive tables.  We had better be thankful!  We need to count our blessings!  We need to thank God for His abundant mercy, blessings and care.

Happy Thanksgiving!
