How many times have you heard people claim Phillipians 4:19 when hoping for God to supply something they need in their life. I don’t know about you, but I have heard it invoked innummerable times and even by those who don’t believe the Bible or claim to be Christian. What is that all about? I think many feel that it is some kind of magical encantation or mantra that if they use it somehow, someway they will force the desired results. This is a Bible promise that all of us would like to claim. I know I do. But these wonderful Christians had been faithful in helping Paul over and over in his missionary work. (Philipians 4:16) In fact they were the only ones who had sent him support. (Phillipians 4:15) They by their sacrificial and faithful giving had created a need which Paul promises to them that God would supply. Many people, perhaps even some reading this have needs that you want God to supply but your needs have been created by your own poor stewardship. How is your stewardship in reference to world evangelism? But I want to go even one step further. Most of the time when we claim that God will supply all of our needs we are looking for something tangible or something monetary. If our need is a car – where is that new SUV? If our need is cash – is the check in the mail? We need to read this promise again. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Paul believed that every thing we needed could be found in Jesus Christ. Even the supply of our temporal wants. God’s greatest treasure is Jesus. Above all else, my greatest need is Jesus Christ. Therefore, I want Him! All needs supplied!
